Peter's claim 1st cleansheet in hard fought victory

St Peter's extended their unbeaten run to 2 games with a gritty performance against a touch Regent's Park team.
An early goal from returning legend Charlie Mcnicholas set Peter's on their way. Mcnicholas lost his marker from a Griffiths corner and powered a rocket of a header into the back of the net.
However, rather than insipiring Peter's to greater things the goal was followed by a tepid 20 minutes in which Regents threatened on a number of occasions, and were it not for Alaric Smith's perfectly timed tackle when the Regents forward had rounded Altmann-Richer, the game may have taken a different course.
Smith's genius pushed Peter's onwards and they ended the 1st half with heads held high.
The 2nd half was a cagy affair with the odd skirmish in each penalty area, before Al-talib added Peter's second goal after good work by the midfield.
St Peter's claimed their 1st clean sheet of the season, an achievement many would put beyond them after conceding 12 goals in their 1st 2 games, but in Bowler, Smith, Rehill and Coulson Peter's had a defence which has grown in confidence and experience throughout the season, and with Altmann-Richer inspiring confidence in them, Regents rarely looked like they could unlock a defence protected by Watson and Mcnicholas.
With 5 minutes to go Peter's were awarded a penalty for a foul on Mansell. Mcnicholas, on loan from Benfica, stepped up with a record of 9 penalties, 9 goals, but his effort was matched by the Regents goalkeeper and he returned to Lisbon knowing he missed his chance to break into the top goalscoring charts in his 1st game of the season.
However, Peter's held on and recorded their 2nd win of the season, their 1st cleansheet, Al-talib moved to the top of the goalscoring chart, and the team move up to 5th in the table.
